The cells produce tumors in nude mice, and the resulting tumors are positive for expression of neurofibrillary proteins, glutamine synthetase and neuron specific enolase but negative for glial fibrillary acidic proteins and S100 (S-100) protein. The cells express elevated levels of four biochemical markers of SCLC (neuron specific enolase, the brain isoenzyme of creatine kinase, L-DOPA decarboxylase and bombesin-like immunoreactivity.
